your internet service provider probably offers hosting as well, but you can host your site with any company that offers hosting, doesn't even need to be on the same continent. find a host that suits your and your websites needs at a fair price. considerations are what kind of website you have ie. if you need to have asp programming, then you need a host that offers windows as the OS, most hosts use a unix server which is fine for everything else (html or php). point is your ISP and host are two different services that you can buy from 2 different companies. hope this helps

If you want a domain name that is easy to manage, where you can get hosting, when needed, at a reasonable price then go to one of the 'big boys' try http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ I have been using them for years with no problems nor hassle.
There are plenty of others out there but it might help you to read up on it a bit first. Horses for courses, why do you want a domain name, is it only for email? You only need web hosting if you have a website. Once you have learned a little about domains and web hosting then you will know exactly what your requirements will be, could also save you a money.
You will find a lot of useful information in the links below and although it is aimed at businesses it will help you on your way.

All the free web hosting services seem to bother you with spam and/or advertising and/or pop-up windows and do not give you your own domain name. Also they have a very limited hosting space & monthly data transfer. Where as most of the paid hosting services offer disc space of only 5Gb & data transfer per month is 200Gb only. But a good hosting service, like the one mentioned below gives you 50Gb hosting space & 999Gb data transfer per month. Secondly you can host UNLIMITED domains.Free domain with No set up fees with 24/7 technical support.Yes you do get complete Account "Control Panel" access, FTP Access, Shell Access (SSH), Charges are also very very competitive.
They Support:
Streaming Audio/Video
Real Audio & Video Support
Flash/Shockwave
MIDI File Support
100 MySQL Databases
100 PostgreSQL Databases
PHP Version 4 or 5 (Your Choice)
PHP Nuke
Support For Custom PHP.INI Files
phpForm Generator
Unlimited POP3/POP3 Secure Email Support
Unlimited Email Autoresponder
Bulletin Board (Message Forum)
Javascript/DHTML
Poll and Survey Software

Who hosts your website has nothing at all to do with your ISP. After all, you can visit any website, including Yahoo, even though you're connected with BT, can't you - why would it be any different for your own site?
There are hundreds of hosting providers out there, look around for one that meets your requirements (put "web host" into your favourite search engine). If you just want to host static web pages with your own domain name, any low-end hosting package will be fine.
