I feel it's best to avoid medication as often as possible. The best thing to use, that is not consumed, is Vick's Vapor Rub. Put a bit on the chest area and it will open the child up so the mucus can drain naturally. Any natural food store carry's books regarding natural remedy's. you may also check out the Internet. Good Luck!

I raised 4 children without the use of conventional medicine. I used home remedies and natural remedies. With the exception of accidents (stitches, etc.) my kids never saw a doctor and to this day (they are grown) have never had an antibiotic. My daughter has had 6 children....all born at home without a doctor. I told you all that to tell you this....

I used garlic for colds. We ate good foods full of vitamins especially "c". They ate oranges and garlic at the very onset of a cold. The 2 ways I'd give them garlic (besides cooking with it) was to slice it like a pill and have the swallow it or I'd mince it up with a little tool I have and put the mushy pulp in empty capsuls that you can get at any health food store.

I'd use salt water for the nose (have them snuff it up and then blow gently.)

Dayquill and Nyquill. It's very helpful. I use it on my child, and she's able to go to school within a day or two. A runny nose is sometimes allgeries or the cold. If your child has a cold, send him/her with cough drops. Use Cherry Coldeeze. The other coughdrops used by other people, they leave a stinky smell in the mouth, and they have horrible taste. If your just has allergies, talk to your doctor.

Benadryl or something with anti-histamine. This will help dry up the nose. I use it when my kids get sick and it helps tremendously cut down to 1/2 the healing time of a cold.
