There were so many styles in the 80s that people have forgotten about. Not everyone wore rah-rah skirts and shoulder pads.
When I was there, I was into the baby-doll dress and doc marten look. Thinking about it has made me all nostalgic, perhaps I ought to resurrect it.

I am an eighties girl for halloween. I'm wearing an oversized red and white striped sweater that has a very big v neck. Underneath the top is a black fishet tanktop. I'm also wearing a mini skirt with rhinestones that isnt much longer then the shirt. thick tights with ripped holes in them and shiny pumps with red and black legwarmers complete the look. Accessories are big hoop earrings in red with holes, a big beaded neclace tied in a knot, and jelly bracelets. I put my hair up in a half side ponytail- my layered hair wouldn't stay in the whole ponytail, and I crimped the bottom half and teased my bangs sky high. Lots of blue eyeshadow and hot pink lipstick.

I would get a cotton athletic sweater and cut the collar so it falls off the shoulders, wear the leggings, and wear some pumps with it. Kinda like Jennifer Beal in Flashdance. And depending on your hair type you can have big hair with lots of volume, rat it up, put it in a side swept pony tail or a banana clip. Big bangs were the thing too. Bangles were really big back then too. You have a lot to work with. Just think funky and fun, and not matching too good. Lol.

Sorry to break this to you, but love shirts were not the 80's. They were the late 60's and early 70's. But, perhaps the people at your party are too young to know that.
Eighties style was Disco, satin pants, big hair, bright colors, and big earings.
Good luck, and have fun.

Leggings (or pants with tight, skinny legs) with long shrit, BIG hair that needs a lot of hairspray...usually the permed look, overdone make up with plenty of lip gloss and blue eye makeup, little girs style ruffled socks with pumps (watch any old ZZ Top video!) worn with a mini skirt (flip flops were not in style in the 80's), bright and colorful plastic jewelry, shoulder pads--which were often worn in "Miami Vice" syle jackets along with a pair of leggings and sometimes a neck tie, low slung belts or thick belts around the waist over a blouse, headbands...thick or thin, sort of disco/punk clothes.

Leggings, a poofy ballerina skirt (You can get one at Target in the girl's department on the Dottie Loves wall) over a ripped denim skirt, high heels, a spandex undershirt, and a t-shirt cut to chest level over the undershirt. Tease your hair and use a lot of hairspray, big earrings, a lot of bracelets, long necklaces, and a lot of colorful make-up.
Fashion was "costume" and fun in the eighties.

Put on some leggings with a Large button up shirt get a WIDE belt and wear it around your waist over the shirt. Or if your wearing jeans make sure you roll them at the bottom.(fold the front over to create a pleat. then roll them a couple of times to tighten them up.) Get an old denim jacket and cover it with safety pins and "sayings" pins. Fold up a scarf or bandanna and wear it in your hair like a head band. Make sure to tease your hair really big! Wear some cheap plastic jewelry. Try to find some sun glasses with fluorescent colored sides.
Have Fun!

Maybe a leather shorts or skirt. Where alot of jewelry like Madonna did then. Some kind of boots or pumps that have sparkles on it. Watch the Wedding Singer with Adam Sandler,
that was based on the 80's.

Any super bright colored shoes. Slouch boots. Wear a scrunchy & don't forget to pull your ponytail off to the side Cyndi Lauper style. Anything bright as an accessory should work too.
