Are you sure that they are only bruised? Course if they are cracked or broken there is nothing Dr will do except for what I am about to tell you.
Take aspirin/tylenol or ibuprofen for the pain and go to your local Pharmacy and get a rib binder.
Holding a pillow up to your chest when you sneeze will help support your chest and brace the ribs to guard against the jolt of the sneeze.
The rest is left up to time.

Donna: in case of bruised ribs: they can be sore for a while
because what you might of done is bumped them .For
care use deep heat rub oitments or rest in bed by laying
flat on heating pad it will help out too some times easing pain stress try that for a while as reccomended

Actually only thing you can really do is go to doctor to get xray to make sure it's nothing seriously. Then keep it wrap up, don't do any heavy activity, and take pain killers.
Also rest a LOT! by breathing fast or hard, it will make it take longer for your ribs to heal.

You can try an Ace compression bandage to limit the movement of the ribs, but this is one of the most painful injuries there is. Ibuprofen will help some if the doctor didn't give you a prescription for something stronger. Basically, you just have to suck it up and see it through. Good luck!

someone plowed their shoulder into my chest on the basketball court, was the area just below my left pectoral, little below the nipple ... rib doesnt seem broken because pain is not sharp, just sore... i can breathe fine... is it bruised? anyway, anyone know if there is any risk to the heart or arteries in there from the initial hit? where is the heart anyway? i am more worried about internal damage, though overall i feel fine...

I've cracked a rib before and the only thing they do is tell you to sit still and take pain medicines. Might want to wrap your torso up to help support it and just rest up as much as you can.

You don't say how you managed to do this. Breaking ribs is actually very hard to achieve, therefore I doubt this is the case. It sounds to me a classic case of taking painkillers, trying not to take deep breaths, and resting and avoiding sharp movements - it really is the only cure.

Yes.Did it, done it, it's awful, to say the least.Try not to put a lot of effort in your daily activities, you'll need less air.I mean that you'll not force your lungs to inhale a large quantity of air, then your ribs will relax.Mild pain killers and...........this too, shall pass!
Stay healthy!
