A number 1 record has sold around 30,000 copies per week. Sales of around 13,000 have been sufficient to hit the top 10. A title selling over 2,500 copies would make the Top 40. These figures have approximately halved since 2002 - more at the no.1 position.

The pop charts were recently changed so that downloads are counted as well as radio playtime and CD sales. Generally the average for a 'decent' sellling album is around the 30.000 mark for CD sales, and around 60000-70000 sales overall. The lowest selling single in the top 40 was the Boogie Pimps with Somebody to Love, which only sold 13000 copies to reach 3 in the chart (this was before downloads were counted).

you're asking the incorrect question. It should not be which of both is the further constructive or perhaps extra influential album. Their position in song are seminal in 2 extraordinarily diverse eras (in spite of the actual incontrovertible truth that close chronologically). Floyd's Saucerful of secrets and techniques extra heavily compares to ITCOTKC when you consider that both were groundbreaking debuts of somewhat significant prog bands. similar LPs are ELP's first and the Moody Blues' Days of destiny handed. DSOM might want to be compared to different landmark prog albums from 1973 -- a huge year for prog -- like ELP's mind Salad surgical operation, KC's Larks' Tongues in Aspic, and Genesis's bounce ahead launch, promoting England by technique of the Pound. at the same time as DSOM transcends even this evaluation because it rightfully stands alongside Frampton's stay album, Fleetwood Mac's White Album, or perhaps Micheal Jackson's Off the Wall as a crossover masterpiece, its result on prog at this second time is extra telling than its extra constructive/worse area-by technique of-area to ITCOTKC.

Air play is more important to get on the top 40. A gold record is 500,000. A platinum is 1 million. Sales & air play both.
