I lived in Formia from 1967 - 1970.

I went to school in Gaeta. Stayed at the Rock Garden for a long time coming and going.

I can still taste (in my memory) the fabulous donoughts we got in Gaeta, better than anywhere on earth. I can still see the amazing market in Formia, where fishermen dumped fresh catch from their boats onto sales tables. I can still taste the Pizza, sold by the kilo, cut in half, wrapped with wax paper so that the cheese sides are together.

I remember the wonderful beach we could walk to from our rental house. I remember the incredible warmth and kindness of all the Italian people.

I remember the large "Vota Communista" banner than hung in such a way that you could see my father's U.S. Navy ship right under the banner.

Italy - I thought this was one of the most perfect places on earth - beautiful to look at, history to absorb, awesome food, the most wonderful people on earth.
