If you really want it to heal quickly, it is advisable not to eat solids, since some of it may get stuck inside the piercing. Yuck!!!
As for the metal thing, yep. I had braces on for a couple of years and metal does accelerate bad breath...
You need to wash your mouth each and every time you eat something as well as use mouth wash each and every time.
When you feel your tongue is swollen and something is discharging from the piercing, and it hurts like he**, you will know.
These type of piercings must be kept clean ALWAYS. I know of a person that had half of his ear chopped off due to an ear piercing that got gangrene. And the ear is a place that is not always wet. Just imagine what grows on an open wound that is always wet!!!!!

3 -- you will know when its infected because you will have a discharge and it will be very very painful. As long as you rinse regularly with warm salty water and follow the directions of your (reputable) piercer you shouldn't have a problem. You may find it difficult to talk at first but this is common and passes quickly. However it is true that you can erode or chip your teeth with any mouth piercing. Talk to your piercer about suitable materials that will minimize possible tooth damage.

I have mine done and u can eat the next day if u can tolerate it..I think i ate a sandwich the same night...My mouth does not stink and never did..Even when I had it first done...Plp will tell u stupid things to prevent u from doing it..U will know if its infected cause it will stay sore...The soreness usually goes away after the first few days...But it will swell and will stay swollen for a few days...Just make sure u rinse ur mouth with a mouthwash called Biotene...u can get it at wal mart...Thats the best thing for it...Good luck!!!

It does harm! I have had one for over two years. At first you're best competent to devour delicate meals, which will in many instances be difficult if you are choosy! So you wanna get your tongue pierced. I'm now not going to lie, it does harm and will come to be an is-hue together with your tooth!! I desire this helped and well success!! :)-

Not only are all of the above true, but it causes nerve damage which brings on terrible headaches. There are even some cases of it causing death.
