It could be for several reason's. He might think that you are dwelling on her and is taking offense to that. ( mis-guided shock therapy )He could be returning bad remarks that you might be making about his mother or father. ( childish..."you hurt me so I'm hurting you") It could be that he is jealous of the feelings you had for your mother. ( possessive ) In any case it sounds like you two might have a communication problem. Have you asked HIM why he does it? Have you told him how you feel when he does it? If a couple can't talk or communicate with each other they will not be able to work out their problems. Hurts will keep mounting inside each of you until one day it will lead to break-up or divorce. What ever the reason that he is doing it, I think it shows a great dis-respect for your feelings. The first thing you need to do is LET HIM KNOW how you feel about it. If he cares about you he will stop it. If he doesn't..... better dump him now rather than waste any more time on a relationship that is doomed.

Maybe because you have so much respect and love for your mother, the spouse feels threatened and jealous? It's irrational but possible.

It's called passive aggressive behavior. He's probably really angry with you but doesn't have the guts to confront you. By cutting down your deceased mother, he can annoy you without the fear of you retaliating. It's "safer" for him to complain about her. The next time he does this, you might want to confront him with the following: "So, what are you really angry about?"

I don't know, for some reason it might make him feel better. Its a cheap shot. He/She is trying to get at you, and in poor taste. This person needs to grow up.
