6 quarts, unless it is has a high capacity oil pan. Easiest way to do it is to pour in 4 quarts, start the engine to let the filter fill up, shut it off, and check the dipstick. Fill as needed to full.

5 quarts with filter change with older fat filter
4.5 quarts with filter change with newer slender filter.
If your not sure which filter is which change the oil and filter adding 4.5 quarts. Start the engine and let it run for a minute and then shut it off. Wait a minute and check the fluid level if it doesn't read full add another 1/2 quart.
Nice tip on changing oil. Pour oil into the new filter to fill it up half way this way your engine isn't starved for oil as long.

You could use synthetic, but unless you're doing a lot of hard racing it's really not worth it. Synthetic oils were developed for high horsepower, high-stress situations, and really don't offer any more protection for street driving. I've used Castrol GTX 10W30 for years in all my cars and never had a problem with them. If you live north of the mason-dixon line you may switch to 5W30 in the winter, but southern states really don't see the kind of cold winters and don't need thinner oils.
