Sedimentary rocks are typically softer than metamorphic or igneous rocks. Of course some types of sedimentary rock are softer than others. And the term "soft" is strictly relative. If you get hit in the head with a chunk of sandstone (a "soft" sedimentary rock), it would feel very hard indeed.

metamorphic rocks are formed from pre-existing rocks during metamorphism, as a result of high pressure and/or high temperature . but sedimentary are just made of sediments that can easily be broken
