I thought i had come up something heartfelt and brilliant only to find out that my thoughts were always spoken by others...

And i tried so hard to be original.

And now i'm starting to realize that even when i try my hardest, it's just not good enough.

Just remember that "there is nothing new under the sun"...so someone somewhere thought the same thoughts you have just discovered....so what? Be proud that you had a thought...so many people don't even think let alone have thoughts they feel are original.

I'm not trying to be a smart ***...honest. Just remember that you are the sum total of your parts...and you are just as unique as everyone else. We all learn, we all grow, we all discover...be proud that you made a discovery and take comfort that you will continue to do so.

Now go eat a donut.

Boo Hoo Boo Hoo

The problem with trying to first is that dead people have already beaten you to the punch and you can never overcome that advantage.

Some of the greatest thinkers in the world were nothing more than plagerists who had the money and the connections to get the word out there that they were something

Some of the greatest artists in the world were only able to make a difference because their families had money to pay their way and to buy their artwork.

The moral of the story is that you will never be first but you are here and now and that should be enough for anyone.

BTW, I used to feel like you but then i realized that the best that I can be is me, and i am not done yet being me.

You are not done being you either.

Thoughts are a hard thing, I guess, because there's nothing new under the sun... I just won't allow other people's thoughts (written or spoken) get int the way of what I did and liked...
However, I make all 100s and stuff in school, I'm bound to be valedictorian, yet I don't get a "Good job" from my parents... I'm probably over the phase of not caring any more, but a voice still asks in my mind, "Are these grades not good enough to get a simple compliment from you? What must I do? Find a cure for cancer or something?"
I eventually get over myself and move on...

It happens all the time. By the time you've expressed yourself someone else has already made the same statement, hence making you look unoriginal.

"You" is meant to be a generalization here, not you specifically.

For the record, trying your hardest is ALWAYS good enough.

I feel the same often. If I come up with something that has been done already, I tweak it just a little bit to fit my personality and let it fly. Great ideas should always be repeated!

It is a hard hard habit to break, but you must not compare yourself to others. Listen to the inner voice that shouts your greatness, you will need it one day when the chips are really down. I am not advocating conceit or arrogance, merely a sense of self, a rock within your soul that is yours to retreat to when you need the comfort. How sad to discover you are not your own best friend....

I always feel like this but I try not to let it get me down, as I tell my daughter if you've tried your hardest then you've done the best you can do. Be proud of yourself.

I feel like that a lot to, especially when I was in school. I would study and try so hard, I would either fail or get a low mark

*sigh* I know the feeling. I grew up with a dad who was the head of the philosophy department. When I was really young I would come up with these crazy ideas I thought were revolutionary, and my dad would listen patiently and then say "oh, that's just Spinoza" or "you should really read Wittgenstein".

I gave up instead... my mistake.
