Has his attention towards you changed in a way that would make you think he likes you more than friends?

I would feel him out and if you really would rather keep your friendship platonic and not romantic, you could say things like:
I'm so lucky to have you as a FRIEND, stressing the friend, if you want to say like a brother you can confide in, etc.

This will come across loud and clear you are only interested in being friends with him, but don't come across too strong that you scare him.

You say you've been friends for 9 years, that's a long time...have you tried talking to your Mom, she could be a great source of info.

Good luck!

The best thing to do is to tell him that you have a crush on another guy. Tell this to him before he makes any moves. This way he won't feel rejected. Your friendship will not be broken.

i think that you should kindly tell your friend that you dont like him that way.Don't say it randomly, like your guys are talking together and you shout out 'I DONT LIKE YOU THAT WAYY!!' No. not a good idea. when the time is right, like when he asks you out, very kindly say 'no'. He is most likely going to be bummed, and might not talk to you for awhile, but soon enough you guys will be friends again.
