I think your question is a legitmate one. Lesbians are accepted by straight society a lot more than Gay men. TV stars like Rosie and Ellen can be out to the public and still have their own talk shows with amazing success. Of course these shows are watched primarily by women who by their very nature, accept and protect each other. In fact they admire a woman who can be successful no matter what their orientation is.
Straight men on the other hand, look down on gay men. They would not accept a TV show with an admitted gay man, unless it was a story line that made fun of them as sterotypes or that they were a victim of murder or other attack.
Have you ever wondered why a city like Fort Lauderdale for example, has some 20 or more gay bars & clubs, but only 1 or 2 lesbian clubs. It's because Lesbians can feel comfortable in any bar, straight or gay. They can greet each other with a hug and even a kiss. You can imagine what would happen if gay men did the same thing in a straight bar. Two men are often made to feel uncomfortable if they are just enjoying a nice meal together. Unless of course, it was during business hours and they were wearing suits.
Straight society only accept gay men if they are in a steriotyped position such as window dressers, waiters, hair dressers, male nurses etc etc. Even then they will make fun of you behind your back. At least that is the way its been for the 76 years I have been around.
The bottom line is, just relax, enjoy, and accept Lesbians' good fortune, and don't hold it against them.

1. Gay 2. Top 3. Yes 4.------ 5. Versatility is, of course, the most preferable. By answering "top" I'm expressing a preference not a necessity. These are hardly personal questions, not ordinary but not deeply probing into areas that I might not feel comfortable in answering. Usually when presented with this sort of questionnaire I'm tempted to answer... 1.Undecided 2.Versatile includes both other selections. Not possible to answer. 3. See 2 4.See 2 5.See 3 & 4

I think the difference in attitude is because of the "tradition" of manliness that this country has come to expect of men in general. It's considered better to be a "manly" female than to be a "feminine" man because of the attitudes of corporate America who control the money and thus the opinions of a great many of our fellow Americans. And the opinions about the "wrongness" of homosexuality being fostered by the VERY VOCAL religious right certainly has not helped matters.

This has to do with that fact that Straight men love the fact of seeing two women together. This is their fantasy, and through out time it has grown to be acceptable, where as two men...ehh not the case. However, times are changing. I am start to notice where some women are enjoying to see two men go at it. Give it about 30 years, and it too will catch up with the two women thing.

I am a straight woman, but yes, indeed, I've noticed this. Even in the small town that I live in...I have seen bi girls being trampy & sleazy at bars...lesbians too...sloppily making out and getting cheered on, but if my best friend and his long term boyfriend were to give eachother a romantic kiss, they would be vilified. Makes no sense.
BTW, I am NOT saying that ALL bi or lesbian women act like that.

Almost every heterosexual male fantasizes about 2 females having sex. Not very many heterosexual female fantasizes about 2 males having sex.
I do not think that means lesbian and bisexual women are given any kind of 'free pass'...maybe they just don't get the 'in-your-face' hostility that gay and bisexual men do.
and it doesn't bother me...i am glad for them.

Because women are known for their effection and have always been intimate with each other, I don`t mean sexually, but just real caring, and men have always been thought of as tough, strong ,and masculine, and they look funny, showing feelings like that,to other men.. Im straight, and I don`t believe its natural, for either sex, to have intercourse with the same sex.

Bisexual and gay women are usually bigger and meaner than gay boys; especially if they apply for jobs as bouncers.
You don't see many butch lesbian hairdressers, or decorators, so there are niches for everyone. My answer is a joke, but with some serious undertones, huh, Paula? haha

It all depends on what part of the country you are in, I guess. I have some lesbian friends and it's not an easy road for them either.
