If multi-culturalism means that we happily live together then nowhere is multicultural. If multiculturalism means seperation, ghettos, non-integration then we are.
Still, racial violence remains very much the exception rather than the norm. Britain is a Democracy, with treasured rights, freedoms and tolerance. There is a tyranny of the majority culture, but we've had the presence of mind to limit this "tyranny" by legislating for guarantees for many minority groups.
There is little more that can be done. Muslims "stick out like sore thumbs" because of the current geo-political situation, lack of integration (whether that is right or wrong)
The current attack on veils is an attack on veils not Muslims per se. Iraq is foreign policy, most "white" British were against the war - does that mean they were targeted because of the war.
Muslims are far from blameless in this situation too.
In short, people are stupid.

In the UK, as with most of Europe, it is unlawful to incite race hatred, yet the UK Government is doing just that.
Take a close look at Ministers, jumped up Scots and Northerners, and no matter how far they think they have come, "our boy made it to Uni", this lot are steeped in racism.
That in the ring, as it were, the incitement, especially against muslims is, there can be little doubt, an attempt by the current Government to incite each group against the other, with this giving a face to "see, told you what they are like" poicy gainst Muslims abroad, Iraq and Iran, to name a few, and in the meanwhile distract from the very same olicy and the madness it has caused.
War criminals, cowards and racists, that is the current make up of Government Ministers just bow, with Blair and Reid worse than the rest.

Because they are the ones who are rebelling and putting themselves up there in the media, to promote the thought that we are all racists. They think they are strong women defending the wearing of the veil, which is the symbol of hiding and being the property of a man. I would like to see as many muslim people stand up and tell the media they are against terrorism and the spewing of nonsense by clerics of their religion.
Muslims stick out like sore thumbs by their own hands. They're attitude of defiance over the veil is underhanded, perverse and unliberating. It is an attempt to take our eye of the ball and gain sympathy, it only promotes the fact that muslim women are compliant to males. Letting themselves be used again.

it is impossible for britain to become multi cultural. all the worlds religions work fine together all except for islam.
democracy and islam are totally opposites and will never be combined.
i say live and let live and dont try to force us to intergrate. it hasnt worked. we can not live together we have different beliefs and traditions cultures and this will cause tension.
the fact ramadan and eid gets more of a police response in manchester than christmas and new year is a joke. the muslims seem to be given preferential treatment over the indiginous peoples, you see its already not on an even keel. its not equal we are not the same and are treated differently

We have a lot of cultures living here, not sure how integrated we are?
On the Muslim issue; if the muslim "moderates" would grow the backbone and voice to publicly speak up against and denounce the "extremists" who preach violence and terrorism in the name of a peaceful religion then you might start to get some respect.
The only muslim "voice" of Islam audble to general public at present are the extremists who allegedly want to kill us all.
I will agree that not all muslims are extremists but the perception is that all terrorists are muslim.
Instead of moaning, what are you going to do to promote and improve the public image of Islam?

`Cos it`s some muslims who are not fully intergrating. They are creating their own little ghettos within some cities and towns. It seems they`re going OTT on the religion and culture thing. This is the UK not Arabia or Pakistan. How can a muslim woman really intergrate wearing a veil? She can`t work in a factory, warehouse, hospital or anywhere else where health and safety issues come first. The western world is a visual society. If these people prefer the religion and culture thing to come 1st they should live somewhere else more suited to it. The problem is though that they want their cake and to eat it. When in Rome.....?

Its Muslims today, next year it will be the Koreans then the French. People will never be happy unless they have someone to fear or dislike because they don't appear in the same way as themselves. The government wont do anything to stop the situation because they choose not to see what is happening.

I'm Scottish but live in England now, and I must say the level of racism I witness here is quite shocking. I don't think we are anywhere near a multicultural nation. That is in my view to be able to claim you are multicultural, then you ought to be able to say each culture exists in harmony with each other. I would say I have seen that in London but certainly not in the M62 corridor. Governments respond to what the press force them to respond to. So I blame the press for fanning flames of sensationalism, it sells newspapers. One reason I refuse to buy a newspaper. There is enough news (which is regulated & unbias) on TV.

They are not being targeted. It's just that Jack Straw has finally asked the question which had been in the minds of most people for a long time. Of all the minority groups in the UK this is the one which is causing the most trouble and it's only a matter of time before it all kicks off. We have been welcoming and accommodating for a long time, but that's not enough for Muslims; they want to live as if they are in an Islamic state. They wish to convert us all by any means however violent. It is time that we voiced our opinions before it's too late.

in simple terms like the the different unfastened speaking u . s . a . and freedom of speach, you have the impressive to coach your Religeon. So portion of a muslims life Sharia regulation too is significant. the place there's a significant presence of a particular community is attainable in, why no longer enable or wish for the regulation too. in spite of everything will you pass away or abandon your mom land, your nationaluty? or must you?
