This is a part of a passage that was written as encouragement to disciples given in the first century church. There are temptations of insecurities, depression, worries and being anxious in life before (much similar today) but God always offers unlimited peace to those who has faith in His one and only Son. Its like someone telling you when you are in your most worst "I undertand, i know, I will help you."

This means that when a person accepts Jesus into their life, they receive a peace through grace by God, that transcends all understanding. The "transcends all understanding" part means that as human beings in our limited thinking skills, cannot understand how that peace has come over us or just how deep it is.

It transcends all understanding because it is what you will feel when you connect with your soul (meditation etc).
It is said it transcends all understanding because you will not be perceiving it with your mind. In affect you will be out of your mind and connected to the divine/spirit/source/god/life/whatever.....
A book written by someone who has definitely been there is 'Be Here Now' by Ram Dass (as one example) - loads out there. Then you can connect with your own experience of it!!
Peace be with you.....;-)

Picture this: a calm day on the beach, you have nothing else to do than to listen to the waves and seagulls, and look at the clouds pass by. You are feeling mellow and at peace with the world and yourself. There are hardly any thoughts at all but a sense of all-enveloping understanding and acceptance -- something in that vein, only a thousand times stronger.

it means that there is a god which will understand up no matter how f- up u are, and will accept you no matter what faith you will follow if you are true of heart and have in your heart a desire to go the right way but have fallen but are still trying. But i don't believe in god as there are too many reasons not to and not any proof that he does exist. i believe in spirits as out life energy sometimes doesn't dissapate apon our deaths but moves on to a different level of existance but that is my personal belief and i can be wrong unlike others who claim they definitely are not. I am open to learning and seeing proof

My interpretation. Imagine the most beautiful and peaceful scene one could imagine with only you and God present, the way your soul was created to begin with and no outside influences, no sin.

This peace...removes from you every anxiety about your existence and it's possibilities. You can be in the worst place and still be at peace...
If you can't understand, you don't have it.
