We are an Engineering Team and this person just quite with almost no notice. Everyone else is happy to work in my team and enjoys my leadership. We recently hired a new member who is performing quite well and fits the group perfectly. Could the person who just quit be jealous of the new person? Does this have anything to do with my leadership skills?

I doubt it has anything to do with you. This person may have been jealous or maybe having personal problems or maybe found a better job or anyone of a hundred reasons. People quit with no notice all the time. Don't take it personally.

I have a feeling that you already know the answer.Don't feel guilty, but live and learn.I think the person who quit already had some problems with you and the new person was used to make him feel uncomfortable.Remember, the rest of the crew can see what your doing and begin to lose respect for you.Be fair with people and try to understand each individual has different needs.Try to put yourself in thier place when you talk to them. When at work don't talk about the person who just quit.

People quit jobs for a lot of different reasons, you never know what is going on in an employee's personal life

Yes and No

You need to be familiar with each of your team, as an individual. You don't need to be pushy about their personal life, but you do need to know where they are in their professional goals. And how you can help them achieve.

But on the other hand, everyone has a life. Don't read too much into the termination. Simply accept it as it happens and move on.
Your priority now is to the team you have... Good luck.

The fact that you did not even know why your employee left is a clear indication that you are not aware of what's happening. It could be any of the reasons.

1) Not Approachable
2) No bonding
3) Ignorant
4) Have not won the respect of the employee

Everything happens for a reason. All the more If it happens suddenly.

People don't need to stay in one job forever. Life and circumstances change. Its no big deal. If it was your fault you would of found out about it. Disgruntled employees always air out their grievances to someone. Sounds more like something happened in his personal like.

Not at all, the quitter may have had a better offer, or a thousand other reasons.so don't be so thin skinned. Your going to have to toughen up if your going to make it in this old world.

Sometimes people just don't fit in - you can't get along with everyone.

No, nothing to do with you.

Different people bond differently.
