I recently posted a question asking how to fix the deficit without raising taxes. Only one answer was posted that provided a fix that didn't raise taxes. Don't most libs know that increasing taxes only increases spending in the USG? Ear marking by Dems such as Byrd- WV, Kennedy and Clinton will consume the additional funding. It proves my point that the libs can't understand the premise of taxation without representation or the theory of fair and equitable taxation. Time for the 15% consumption based flat tax so everybody pays at an equal level.

I'm not all that convinced that the consumption based tax system would work. People who are wealthy do not necessarily spend more money than those who are not. If that were the case, eventually they wouldn't be rich anymore.
Rather than looking at ways to increase taxes or change the tax code, it makes more sense to me to examine ways to shrink the government.
For instance, in today's day and age do we really need the services of the IRS anymore. Why are we burdening business with record keeping for payroll deductions and requiring business to be the tax collectors. Why not have payroll checks clearly marked as payroll checks and have banks deduct the taxes when cashed by the employees. Finding ways to relieve the cost of tax collections would save the taxpayers and the private sector billions of dollars annually. One dollar saved in government expense generates several dollars in economic expansion. Economic expansion creates more jobs. More jobs creates more tax revenue.
This is not a theory. It's fact. Think of your household expenses. If you have to spend more money on heat and electric, you have less to spend on vacations. It's simple math. Government spending and taxation always shrinks the economy.
Your question was directed at liberals. I am neither a liberal nor a conservative. I am a moderate. I see both liberal and conservative thinking on taxes and the economy as impractical. Social programs that help the disadvantaged have merit. A strong military is a necessity. But it seems to me that neither side of these issues have a clear view as to how to make this happen without killing the taxpayers.

Apparently a lot of Cons don't understand the concept of basic economics. You are correct about corrupt politicians wasting the extra income, which is a totally separate problem. That has nothing to do with raising taxes, that has to do with the individual politician. Everybody knows that you have to have income to spend $$. If you spend more than you take in then you end up in debt and eventually it spirals out of control and ends badly. Do you propose we just keep on racking up more and more debt? Are you sure it won't eventually catch up with us and bite us in the a**. My theory is the govt has really hardcore laws making it harder for debt collectors so if the American people are all in debt they will ignore the government's debt. We're a bunch of retards who just spend spend spend whether we have it or not.

I agree about a flat tax though. 15% to a millionaire is a lot more than 15% to a poor guy. That would be the best thing we could do for taxes.

I think you were referring to the fair tax. It removes the 23% tax from your pay and moves it to you purchases. If you save your money, then you don't pay taxes. The theory is that the more money you have the more you will spend, which will increase the revenue of the government. What it will do for most of us is that it will lower the cost of the things we buy, it will get rid of the IRS, and we will not have to file taxes and hunt exemptions (exemptions are how the rich get out of paying taxes). Bush already proved that the more money that the people have and spend, the more taxes the government gets.

The Libs want to "fix all the world's problems" and the only way that they can do that and make themselves heros to the great unwashed is by coming up with enormous sums of money. The only way they can do that is tax the working class because most of them are limousine liberals like George Soros and Barbra Streisand, and they REALLY don't want to pay any taxes themselves. Tey believe in redistribution of YOUR wealth.
