There must be a "need" before action. If u don't feel that need, there's not going to be any motivation.

Motivation often happens in response to others. If other people do not help you feel motivated, by reassuring you in a positive way (about anything really) then you may find it hard to feel motivated. If you get no response from other people and there is no one to support you then you have to motivate yourself. This is very hard. But try to find a way to congratulate yourself on things you do well, pat yourself on the back and give yourself little treats. You will be positively reinforcing your own behaviour if noone else does it. Its hard, but it is worthwhile and make you feel better in the long run! Oh and no your not deperssed either!! everyone needs encouragement of some sorts and its hard when its isnt there if and when you need it.

You need to think positive. Wake up in the morning and say tou yourself that you are going to smile at everyone you meet today. Don't put off jobs that need to be done, give yourself one job a day that you've been putting off and do it. Think happy thoughts. Go for a walk in the woods or at the seaside, preferably somewhere near water. Take a camera with you and photo a leaf or something pretty. Look back at the photo and say to yourself "I had a good day that day" and do it again tomorrow. Get loads of sleep. Eat well.
Write down what's bothering you, if anything, and try to fix it.
I didn't say you were depressed. What I wrote above will help you acheive motivation. Excersise, food, sleep and fresh air are contibutary factors in feeling good, thus, becoming motivated. I was trying to help you to BECOME motivated. Lack of motivation is a state of mind which you can overcome by doing all the above.

Motivation, Motivate, Encourage, Enlivening, Inspire, Provoke, Stimulate, Impel, Activate, Spur.
Let me tell you this true story. There was this guy who I worked with and he was late for work on many occasions. One morning my boss asked him “If I paid you a Million dollars for showing up for work on time for six months could you do it?” My co-worker said, “yes he could do it.” My boss says to him “I know why you don’t show up for work on time you’re just not motivated” My co-worker had to agree with my boss.
So you see it’s like many things in life where you have a choice. We weight the effort required compared to the possible out comes. It has to do with personal values. Like we might expend a lot more effort for a million dollars than to keep some crummy job.
You see everyone had their own values. Like some girl might want an “A” grade in some class or other and work like hell to get it. Then there’s some guy in the same class who couldn’t care less about the grade he gets and will apply very little effort.
If you want to be motivated to do something you have to find a good reason for doing it, a reason of high value to you, stronger than any reason you might have for not doing it.
That’s what motivational speaker do, convince us we have a reason of high value to do this or that.

Motivation occurs when there are unfulfilled needs or when there's a gap between ur actual state and preferred state. Maybe u lack ambition right now...or have just pulled off a major achievement and ur subconsciously taking a break. You have to have a goal to be motivated.

First of all I don't think you are lazy otherwise why would you be asking the question?
I tend to agree with rosebud on this one.
In my experience you can begin to tread water without realising it. If you don't feel your roll at work/in life, whatever, is appreciated/required/important to others then why bother.
Hope you find your turning point even if it is just as simple as making one decision on the road to changing the way things are now. Good luck.

Having a goal or a dream motivates oneself to push himself to the limit. Failure to meet these goals cause him to break away or sometimes paralyzed into inactivity.

self-esteem...feelings... Depression is the "Overall" viewpoint of it all. Its like saying, "Did you see 'THE GAME' yesterday?"
It could've been football, baseball....or better yet, it could've been the Tigers, Colts, or Steelers......
Labeling it as Depression covers everything. But when you look into it, analyze how you feel at the moment. How you feel about yourself, and what will make you feel better to the point in which you can achieve certain tasks.
I've never taken psyche classes, but going though my personal mind and feelings, thats what I experience.

I was very interested in your question - and then I realized you have not put down what you want to be motivated to do !! If you do modify your question I will willing have a go at answering it.
I believe there are different forms of motivation for different things that we want to do.
