When many of them have never even been to Iraq?
Both sides do it!
I'm tired of it. I don't support OR protest the war, simply because I've heard too many conflicting perspectives on it.
One soldier told me he hated the Iraqi people, because they would see someone set down an IED, and look the other way.
Another said that the Iraqi people all called him (and the other guys in his unit) their "brothers." This one is very much anti-war, and hates Bush.
Another told me that the Iraqi people work with them, and are wonderful, warm people. He also said that while he was there, he hardly saw any sectrarian violence.
Yet another told me it was awful there, and he saw way too much violence.
So you see, it's not as good as many supporters make it out to be, and it's not as horrible as many protesters make it out to be. Are there people dying? Well, yes, of course, that's what usually happens in a war. But there's also good. And lots of it.
That's why I'm neutral.

I just don't believe in making an uninformed opinion. How can I (or anyone else, for that matter) be POSITIVE in their opinion unless they've been to Iraq?
I support those who are there. I don't criticize them for what they've been sent to do. And I also don't think that we civilians have the WHOLE story.
How can anyone formulate an opinion if they don't know they whole truth?

Amazing someone in this wonderful country actually can think for herself and see BOTH sides to the story. Frankly I had started to believe that people like you were extinct. Your comment was a refreshing breath of fresh air. Your also absolutely correct in what you say. I have had 3 friends, 1 niece, and 2 nephews serve in Iraq. They all say the same things. They have all said that our news in America is totally off base in their reporting.

Ok, First off; Stop comparing the Iraq war to Vietnam!!!! There many be some simularities but in the grand skeem of things they are few and far between. I'm a veteran of the Iraq war and I can tell you right now that I wasn't drafted in to service. I voluteered. And I think that comparing the two is an insult to those that were actually there.
That said; I think it's very enlightened of you to be able to see past the media hype, and form your own opinion. Too many people watch the news and consider themselves experts on a topic that they actually have no firm grasp on.
I've been there. And I can tell you that almost ever soldier you talk to will have a different take on things. They will have seen varying degrees of violence; depending on where they were stationed. And they will have had different levels of interaction with the Iraqi people.
So yes! To answer your question. I'm sick and tired of people pretending to know what it's like because they know some one, who's brother's, sister's, Uncle's, Boyfriend was there. They base their opinions on a biased news report and call themselves objective. Here's a headline for you, "News is only Good when it's Bad!" You only hear news out of Iraq when someone dies, or a soldier makes a mistake....Or when a soldier disgraces the entire armed services. So, next time you read the headline, "32 soldiers die in Suicide Bombing" remember that they signed that dotted line so that you wouldn't have to see the things that they've seen, or do the things that they do. Out of respect for them; Don't abuse your right to free speech by making an ignorant voice heard.

Hey Soldier, this is something that those civies could never understand. You know that saying "You had to be there...." They never were and never will be. I'm tracking, Soldier. You know what's funny? You ever see A Few Good Men? At the end when COL Jessep (Nicholson) gives his famous speech, it basically says most of what I feel like saying to these Anti-War Types; Jessep: You want answers? Kaffee: I want the truth! Jessep: You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to! Stay Safe And Fight The Good Fight Army Strong, Hooah!

I disagree, thats a surprise huh. You see there is nothing forking good about any forking war, people that think the is anything forking good about war are just plain pschoo's to the first degree, 655,000 warm friendly people have died, 100 a day since we got there. The so called Iraqi army is in disaray our guys and girls are getting war weary and we are recruiting more people for the extremeist as we are own Army. No war is good, but this one that I have seen in my years here. Think about it I was here for Vietnam. Not that that wasn't a bad one too. 2800 of our people will not enjoy chirstmas with their family's this year or ever. Many more will have to be helpped to the table. As they no longer have the limbs to do it. The only war is no more war. How do we fight that but we must win it. All the others have to take a back seat to no more war. Look at how Iraq is destroying the rights and freedoms of people in the U.S, we have many problems most of which is caused by the war. George Bush when he chose to rush to war made the biggest mistake of his two terms in office. We are divided as a nation worse then during Vietnam. I am so surprised that there are no people in the streets. Carrying signs and hooting and whistling, making noise. I do know the difference is the draft, if the draft is reinstated you will see young folks fill the streets, people will call them names and try to make them out to be anti-Ameican but they are people that make America what it is. The opposition, the people that don't agree with the government, and just a chance but what if they are right. What if the draft is wrong for this war, what if the war should have never been in the first place. I report you decide. LOL

None of what you see on any TV is the truth. Some is only half true, most of what you see and read in news print is Conservative propaganda. Except that as fact. Live with it as fact. The Government has a very long history of lies to the American people, history proves that to be fact. Read the history of government.
No one is neutral. Some claim to be. Until you have lived war many know nothing about war. War is hell. War is about killing or being killed. It is not about being the national police force where you are there "to protect and serve" that is in fact nation building. In Iraq right now, they are in civil war, only a idiot would think they are not. The Sunni and the Shiite Muslims will fight for another ten years over the oil and power. How many Americans would you sit back and let die in Iraq for there Democracy? I say not one more in my name. We need to get out now. WE lost 58,000 in Nam before we stopped that effort at nation building.
The military is very good at war. Let them do the job or pull them out and save the lives of our bravest and best. What is killing our service men now is the IDEs, the cowards will not stand and fight, they do the dirty work behind your back, just like in Nam.
Now you tell me. Would you send your child to Iraq and order them not to fire unless they are shot at first? I would not. I also would not ask you to go there and be the Iraqi "police" force.

Well i dont think we are given the whole story from either side. One want us to believe everything is great while the other wants us to believe everything is falling apart. From waht i understnd it all depend on where in iraq you are.Alot of places are pretty calm but there are alot of spot that i spretty much runed by the terrorist.Yes Terrorist anyone who murder innocent people are terrorist not insurgents/
now Am im tired of them. Depends. If you are against the war thats fine as long as you keep you opion on the war to just that.If you start syaing that
our soliders are terrorist or the US is Evil than I will consider you a left wing nutcase and ignore your opions. We are free to express our opions
whether other like them or not .Thats whats make us the greatest nation on Gods green earth however like I said earlier with freedom come reponcibilty too bad many people dont understand that.

Whether you support our occupation of Iraq or not, one thing you cannot dispute if the thousands of lives which have been lost as a result of our being there. This to me is the shame of our times. We have asked healthy, upstanding young patriotic Americans to lay their lives on the line for this country, and they did so willingly, only to find out later we invaded this country, made a mess of it, and our international reputation, over phony evidence presented to the American public and the world as fact. That's so sad. I think it is the absolute bare minimum to expect our government to be 100% sure this is our FINAL resort, and that all of the evidence you have is accurate.

I'm with you farkas. People will always protest about war, it is an easy target. I do note however that 30 years after the Vietnam war I hear of people falsely claiming they are veterans. I never hear of a veteran pretending thet were a protestor.
