The reason there are more and more laws governing special education is because there are still places where kids go and sit all day and do nothing. Or the teachers set up a TV and let them watch movies. That ticks-off parents and teachers who DO work to train kids .
By having specific goals and a way to measure them and a yearly testing/meetings is to TRY and get the kids to learn something which will make their lives more meaningful and so that they have a job skill so they can be as independent as they can be.
A parent is always worried what to do when the parents die? Whose going to take care of the special needs child? How is s/he going to survive? A curriculum helps spell out a plan, a series of steps which are broken down into steps so the child can take it one by one. The way people move around so much, you would want to know that wherever you moved your kid would get similar kinds of curriculum- consistency

Yes. We need a curriculum for special education students. Students with an IQ in the 50's do not need to be taking Algebra 2 classes just because the "No Child Left Behind" law. No matter how hard the government tries all children are not going to be on the same levels. That's what makes this world perfect. I am a special education teacher and I love my kids. However, I want them back in my classroom so I can teach them life skills. (counting money, going to the grocery store, ordering at a fast food place and etc...) Algebra 2, Chemistry and the other classes will be of no benefit to my kids. Yes we do need a curriculum. The best interest of each and every different child. We are not the same and never will be. We are not helping our kids regular, special, teachers no one with this law. Someone needs to figure out a curriculum and fast.

Yes. The curriculum can be adjusted for the children who have specialized learning differences (i.e. problems with specific aspects of reading or math) to those who have global deficits (the moderate to severely retarded child). In any case, every child deserves to be educated- and that education can take many forms.

I'm not understanding the question, what do you mean, do we NEED a curriculum? Do you not feel that children in SE are entitled to the same education as RE?
