I think you take the statement out of context.
The idea is that "nurture" or the many events of life made us into this person before you.
Does this mean we can actually take some "Psycho-history" of a person or ourself and say "I am this way because my dog died in my arms, or my boyfriend left the dance with another girl, or I got lost in a grocery store at age 5?" Can we isolate all the past moments which impact our decisions and beliefs? Can we actually pinpoint "Critical Moments of Truth?" Maybe we can locate some....but any actuary will tell you that's a heck of a lot of numbers.
So I will spare you my Tolstoy volumes and say "I = me."

A small and slightly greasy hill of beans in this town, I should think.
If I look at my life with honest eyes, I may have helped a thing or two to happen that I'm proud of. My experience of happiness, of love, of grief, of pain, has been a privilege, a privilege of being alive that each of us takes a little for granted if we can. But will I leave a monument? A meaning? Ultimately, no. I am only one who lives, and sees this window-slot of life. A mass of good intentions in a body rich in blubber.

If you take away all the times my family and friendships have been divided up and multiply all the factors that remain constant, the end result would be exponentially compounded into one massively energetic individual! Minus all the variables I couldn't recall of course.
That would be sum sh1t!!

I might add up to a pretty interesting novel about a small town girl who grew up in the eighties. Girl next door, complex and simple at the same time.

Um, I'll need a calculator. What about negative experiences? Do you add those on, or take them off?

the sum of my experience has taught me to rely on myself and yet still depend on others when there is a need.

I figure I'm just your average Josephine. I know I've been through a lot more than some folks, but yet I know that I've had it easy compare to some.

small change. To coin a phrase. Or maybe Avogadro's number. Who knows? Who's got your number? I think the DMV has mine.
