The most notorious Romanian person was Count Vlad (Dracul) who formed the basis for the legends of Dracula the Vampire.
Vlad was a Romanian who fought against the Moorish invaders in the 12/13 centuries and was reknowned for his treatment of prisoners by impalling them on stakes which he had inserted in their anus and protruded through the victims mouth.
The stakes where then stuck in the ground and the victim died a slow painful death.
Legend has it the Vlad would have large feasts surrounded by these impaled people and would even drink their blood.
To the Romanians he was a hero and a freedom fighter and he is even honoured to this day, to the rest of the world he is largely unknown except through the fictional stories of Dracula.
