You can give 1/8 tsp of Mylanta four times daily. That is not a perfect dosage, but Mylanta is pretty benign. The dose for my 18 pounder is 1/4 tsp.

I have also found that, at night, baking soda water helps a lot. Mix 1/4 tsp of baking soda with 2-3 tsp of water. Then give baby about 1/4 tsp. of that solution. Baking soda is high in sodium, so don't do this but once or twice (if absolutely necessary) daily.

Elevate the crib for sure and hold him upright for 15-20 minutes after each feeding. If you can, hold him upright most of the day.

If he develops nasal congestion from the reflux, then saline drops work wonders. One drop in each nostril of Ocean (or other .65% saline solution) 4-5 times a day. Sometimes a cool mist humidifier helps too. Good luck.

BTW: I agree with the previous poster that you should hold off on meds and cereal. Your baby is WAY too young to start cereal. All babies have GER in the beginning to some extent. Some are just happy refluxers. When baby starts to show signs of pain and distress (starts around 2-3 months or so) then a barium swallow may be in order to assess the damage. That is when meds are in order. But cereal...that was a last resort for me. And I still haven't gone that route.

OH and one more thing...I just can't stop myself...lol...frequent spitting can also be a sign of food sensitivity. It might be worth a shot to switch your formula to anti-reflux.

Acid reflux or heartburn is a significant problem for many of us. 60% of the population have symptoms of reflux (burning in the chest, indigestion, or regurgitation) and one-third have these symptoms weekly. It can impede the quality of our life, affect the enjoyment of our meals, and interrupt our daily activities.
With this video, I want to share some tips about how to take care of reflux symptoms. https://tr.im/RemediesForAcidReflux

Reflux is a chronic medical condition in which contents of the stomach backwash into the esophagus causing symptoms such as heartburn or regurgitation. It is usually caused by the failure of the lower esophageal sphincter, the valve between stomach and the esophagus, to close properly. That causes stomach contents to enter the esophagus, causing irritation leading to heartburn or indigestion.

thickining the bottles with rice cereal really helps, using dr browns bottles, and elevating the baby 30 min after feedings.
question the doc on allergies to milk and soy because they do aggrovate gerd. My son has severe gerd and allergies. he is on prevacid 15mg a day and using ellecare formula (prescribed formula ask about it too)
giving your child baking soda is a NO NO (this is from experence as a medical professional)

if your baby is 6 weeks old and is a reflux baby.. it needs a specialist

Just put him up after every eating to avoid the reflux. Any semi-solid food would do but try not to give him chocolate flavored ones.It can cause further GERD.
