I think it is a cute style for young girls (i'm near 50 by the way, so not for me!) providing the shorts are decent enough to cover your bottom, but not so long that there isnt a nice bit of thigh showing between ends of shorts and top of socks!
You say you will cover your top, and therefore i think - go for it! If you had boobs hanging out, then yes it would look tarty!
Only go for it if you have nice legs!
Enjoy being young! I wore hot pants when they first came out.... super style!

Oh NO NO NO NO NO NO NO do not even try this....with a skirt maybe but not with shorts. I can't even picture that as it is too awful it also depends on age if you are young [16-27] and relatively slim and tall then it might look fairly decent....if you are older then i suggest you clear the idea from your head. DO NOT LISTEN TO PEOPLE SAYING IT IS A GOOD IDEA.

The only time you could get away with wearing knee high socks was if you were wearing a small pleated skirt, small white blouse and pig tails. But all that would only work if are hot and look good in a school girl outfit. O'h and you wouldn't be able to go out looking like that, it would be for your partner eye's only.

I agree with evo a short skirt with knee highs is cool looking even though evo probably likes it for a different reason,though lol.It does look school girlish though.I mean,are you wanting to wear this as an everyday thing because that wouldn't look right!Wait a minuter,are you really a school girl,like are you really in school?If you are go ahead since you are a kid it will look right on you but if you are that much younger don't wear your skirt so short for your own safety,okay?And please don't wear knee highs with shorts,thats eww!

its supposed to be trendy, but personally I think its a bit 'japanese school girl'
If you are under 21 then you could prob get away with it, but otherwise I would team city shorts with tights. Classier but still trendy. Only my opinion though

I think they look good, but not with poxy 'ballet' shoes.
Wear them with a nice pair of Doc Martens.
