Yes, two things are needed I think:
(a) Kim Jong Ill's death (either an internal assassination or a natural death)
(b) education of the north korean people (whether that's funding their schools or providing them nation-wide internet and computers)
I can't think of any peaceful way out of the situation than this.

People, by nature, are nice. Whether they live in a dictatorship or a democracy. I think that people have an issue with the leadership of regimes but not the average "Joe" on the street. I would like to see Nth Korea absorbed by the South, will that happen without bloodshed? Will that happen at all? I don't think anyone has any idea how it will end. Top of that list of people who don't know would be the political leaders.

The new world order as envisaged by the US requires countries to be at war and always ensure conflicts with scope for war.
If there is no war who should the US sell arms to ?
But the divide is essential to further US interests. like in Israel, Lebnon, Syria, Palestine.
India and Pakistaan over Kashmir.
Yemen
Korea,
etc etc.
The Fact is that the US economy isnt like anyother economy,
you dont have industries for manufacturing, Shaving blades, creams, garments, shoes, applainces, Plant and machineries, Clothes, etc etc that help people in everyday lives, like either china or India or malaysia.
You have mostly defence research, and military hardware related industries, Most of your software Giants now are basically less commercial and more spy oreinted, Yahoo, Google, and all others work to supply informations. and further weapons capabilities,
Now when a country whose entire economy runs on military hardware productions, Fighter planes, Missiles, tanks, submarines and Guns, and an economy that thrives on supply during wars, and for wars, Be rational, Can that country talk of peace. anywhere.
As long as the US is involved bewtween koreas, there can be no peace. Today for the US south korea is its blue eyed boy, it wont take long for the US to change its loyalties,
Learn from its relations with Pakistaan, and Afghanistaan,
How badly or nicely did it change its support and stanze towards both countries depending which side is greener. Your guess is good as any.
For peace or even working towards it, Keep the US as fas away as you possibly can.

Yes. Easy. Pressure China to agree and oust the idiot in power in the North part of the country or at least to stop supporting him and they will unite naturally and peacefully. See Germany.

if china were to cut off economic ties completely then the regim would topple, no doubt.
Also, if president bush would engage in direct talks with il there would also be a chance.
personally i prefer no1.

if the top terrorist nation, the spreader of nuclear weapons, the biggest nuclear developer and actual user of nuclear weapons, if that nation were taken out. The world would be at peace.

the fact of the matter is that US is always envolved in every single vworld's conflict, because economic reasons, the best approach is to leave US out of that, certanly they will become friends again, same in Israel, Iraq, and so on...
