I was in the hospital again recently, and I had three IV's, but only two were hooked-up to anything (Saline and Ativan, I think). The un-used one was just capped, and I heard the nurse mention something about a "hemocryque". Is that what it is, how do you spell it, what's it for, and why can't I find out anything about it online?

it was probably whats called a "heplock." You insert the cath, then put weak heparin solution in or flush it with saline and cap it, in case you need it again.
