If a teacher has not received or has lost their DfES teacher number, then the number is re-issued by an organisation called CAPITA, who you can contact in the following ways:

Tel: 01325 745746
Fax: 01325 745789
Email: tpmail@capitagroup.co.uk

Hope that solves your problem - did my ITT last year! Owch!

You could look at you GTC registration (if you have it)
Or you can contact the DfES directly (sorry I don't know the number) they will need you to tell them a few personal details eg NI Number, Year of gaining QTS status, Awarding body etc.

A colleague had to do this a month or so ago.

Only qualified teachers have a DfES number. It doesn't matter how much experience you have or if you have a Masters degree - you are not a qualified teacher so no DfES number.

It should be on your GTC (General Teaching Council) registration card or on the letter you received when you were granted QTS (qualified teacher status).
