I sometimes feel it's split into the sub-concious and concious, and it's never entirely clear which bit is making the decisions. I'm not sure if you could say one bit truly has the other bit though. If you think about it long enough, you will see there is no point where the one ends and the other begins... though it seems as if the two are distinct from each other, small self is big self.

sometimes when i used to take acid, a long time ago, there seemed to be some place unaffected by it. there was a quiet calming voice talking to the part of my mind that was mindlessly giggling at lamp posts. i totally ignored it of course.
