Never thought or heard about it, but in my case it's absolutely true.

Thanks for pointing this out to me, it is nice to learn something out about oneself and how we've changed over the years without noticing....

Have a Bountiful Thanksgiving, a Blessed Christmas and a Fruitful New Year.....

That is so true! Not only that but the toys and gifts in the shops get more useless and tacky year on year. Also, you have to end up buying a mountain of batteries to get the bloody things to work!
I wont deny kids the magic of Christmas though, and at least it's only once a year!. I'm in my thirties but I still buy myself something from Santa each year (and before you ask - no I don't wrap it and leave it under the tree, especially if it's a bottle of expensive malt whisky!)

I've been giving more presents, but also receiving more as I get older. My husband alone gives me more than I used to receive in total as a child. I get gifts from everyone in my family and from my in-laws. Of course, I reciprocate, which means I end up buying for about 18 people.

Yes,but isn't it a bit obvious?Who do we make believe in Father Christmas:kids.
And they expect loads of stuff.Do older people still believe?
Well there you have your answer:the elder buy for kids and get a return present from the parents of those kids:not a fair trade:but that's life, isn't it?

This is not just a Christmas law.
We spend the first 45 years of our lives collecting things then for the rest of our lives we give them away.
Materialism, takes 45 years of our lives to realise it's folly.

Yes, and the presents get smaller the older you get. It sucks

yeah because every year I splash out a bit more but my presents seem to be decreasing. however it doesn't always work like that because some people I know get less generous every year.

It definitely seems that way. I focus more on getting my child gifts than even caring about receiving gifts. I still receive gifts though, but not like when I was kid.
