Haunted houses often have these floorboards that trigger stuff. Like you step on them, and a buzzer sounds. Or lights flash onto a scary mannequin. (Stepping on the floorboard closes the circuit so the electricity can flow through and power the light or the buzzer -- or both. I think you rig this up with a couple of batteries, some wire and a light bulb. There are a lot of "junior electrician" sets out there that would be safe to use.)

I hope you are aiming for a *fun* scare, not just to scare the bejabbers out of the kids. That'll get you bad karma (and rotten eggs, probably!).

If you are daring... Stand on top of your roof and when trick or treaters come up to your house drop a scarecrow or dummy from the roof on the side of them That will scare the crap out of them. Or dress up like a scarecrow and set in a chair and then wave at the kids, but don't let the parents see you doing that so they will tell the kids that they are just imagining things. Good luck and happy Halloween!

unless they are your own kids forget about you scaring them. In todays world they may call 911 and say you traumatized them or worse. Let them scare you for a change. PS Do not touch anyone and give money not candy or not nice things other answers I am sure suggest above this one.
