I find after 12 years of playing, I found ripping off lick from people like Jeff Beck, Cream, Band, after you learn the song chords and solos you forget how to play those songs. Im more of a jammer type than the note for note guitar player. Anybody playing a song hear a anticipate a solo sound that is different than the acutal notes in the song. Find I hear the solo before I even play it a lot of times, but my Question is after you play guitar for years off and on. Do you find a pattern with certian musicans arrangment of song and insticntly know what chord or rhtym pattern there gonna use.

Yeah, especially in rock and blues. Jazz and classical aren't (necessarily) so predictable.

Well i m not sure if i undrestood your question.
I think yes, that's why i find rock and blues(especially the latter) so boring and not intresting. I mean in every rock song and rock-blues song you know what's gonna happen, you know the re will be a solo after the second refrain and it will probably be in this idiot sclale blues pentatonic, wich i also hate it. I sarted playing ause of rock and blues but after 5 months of playing when i saw i could play better than some idiots like clapton, Beck, etc i started studying real music. That's why i love metal, and especially european metal (as a european too). People are not based on just pentatonics and chords, the have uncountable riffs, fast solos wich took them hours of exercising till they sounded so nice, and european metal (black/neoclassical/power) cause of its relation to classical music, wich is my favourite. When hearing guitarists like Y J Malmsteen, U J Roth, Alexi Laiho, Andew Smith, i say wow the know how to play guitar, not like clapton. That's why i m playing my solos in minor, minor harmonic, minor melodic and fryggian scales, that's why i prefer euro metal. Higher culture, better musicians. And i finish by saying that clapton, beck etc are the most overestimated guitarists ever. They only know a blues pentatonic scale and 3-4 chords. They have no idea what playing in minor scales, fastly, with arpeggios, tappings, and so much distortion means...
My advise to you is to listen to some Y Malmsteen songs, to get an idea what palying guitar means. I dont want to offend you, believe me but if you are playing for 12 years blues etc then i believe it was a waste of time. Find real music outside this american way of playing(i mean pentatonics and blues) and discover the magic of real music...

Most guitarists are fairly predictable (not in a bad way.) Even Fruipp is predictable in his unpredictability if that makes sense.
Some guitarists make a virtue of their predictability - reaching the solo in a Clapton song is usually a satisfying and warm anticipation of that major/minor scale blues riffing you know he's gonna do.

To be straightforward with you, i do not see a lot similarity between both songs. I distinctly doubt that Nirvana might want to rip off Boston. notwithstanding I do listen slightly "better than a feeling" in smells like youngster spirit. strong success on your project. BQ1: as a lot as i love Boston, i imagine that Smells Like youngster Spirit develop into the magic gas and delivered the grunge flow. notwithstanding, this isn't declaring that better than a feeling wasn't important, it basically wasn't as influential is all i'm declaring. BQ2: Nirvana, yet Boston kicks some severe ***. BQ3: Hmm, i might want to assert tie. i trust Brad Delp develop into better precise including his notes, yet Kurt Cobain has one among those voices that's known (yeah a well-liked voice) ya understand, sound! BQ4: do not look back and Hitch A journey BQ5: Scentless Apprentice, heart-formed container, in bloom BQ6: i have by no skill been a lot a fan for REM yet I delight in them, they have a strong sound. i love unusual currencies plenty. BQ6: very well, were given no sleep though. i'm like Vinny (Joe Pesci) in my cousin vinny the position he keeps getting woken up each and every rattling morning. errgh!

so many songs go G-C-D7 or some 145 pattern like that.
i've started to get into playing classical lately, just to get away from pentatonic scales and playing the same old things all the time.

I think that the more of other people's music you learn, the greater your musical vocabulary will become. This is return might let you be able to come up with even more original riffs when you jam. Any music you learn will help you, so you cant go wrong.
