Dont you sound like my bf... but I agree with your gf! It's much safer to use the lift, and likely not far from the escalator anyways! I've taken my girl in the stroller on the escalator before as too often here in France there is no lift in sight, and I've been downright scared. If you are going up you have to tilt the stroller backwards, and what if it flips down a step? If you are going down you have to tip the stroller up so the front wheels are no longer touching. Just wait till your child wants to grab at anything nearby and you'll see their hands reaching for the moving sides... ahhhh! There is always a sign that says strollers are not allowed - because it is dangerous!!! Better safe than sorry, dont you think?

I think you are crazy if you take your pram on one of those. So many things could go wrong. The "steps" on and esculator are not wide enough to fit a pram on anyway.
Focus on safety not speed. Be safe not and not sorry for something later.
The last thing you would want is some teenagers or small children running behind you and something happen to your baby.

It is okay as long as you place the pram on the escalator step properly and hold it firmly! Also, make sure you stand at the right spot - bottom/front side if the escalator is going down and holding/back side if it is going up so that you can protect the pram and the baby well!

The question is the same as. Is it safe to drive a car?
It is not safe if you don't know how to do it. So the shopping centres ban it to avoid someone doing it incorrectly and the pram falling over. There is a litigeous risk for the building if that does happen.

No it is not safe, that is why escalators have a WARNING on them. I've seen a baby tumble out of a buggy while being drug onto an escaltor...it's not pretty. Child's mother wound up loosing the baby to CPS and in jail for child abuse. So I'd say it is not safe for either parent or child. What would YOU say?

I have never even come close to loosing control of my pram on escalators. I have been a mother for a while now. I trust myself, and know how to use a pram.
Those signs are so that the building can not be held liable in case someone gets hurt in those circumstances. Ie using prams on e3esculators so that we don't sue them for accidents, but lets face it if you feel like you know what your doing then do it. your are the parent and if yo0u trust yourself then do it. I doubt very much that you would if you thought it was going to kill your child.
Some parents just don't have any confidence and they need to follow every sign, parenting book etc to determine what is their style of parenting.
I don't need those things. I have common sense.

Its ultimately your choice, but if you look carefully at the signs, the pictures are displaying no use of prams on escalators,. however, road signs say speed limits, how many of us stick to them!!!!
