We yawn because by taking a deep breathe in we are intaking a large amount of oxygen that our bodies think will therefore help us wake up.
I don't know why you are yawning when you are not tired, my guess is that, although you don't feel it, you must be sleepy and your body isn't fully awake.

It is a negative feedback mechanism of the body from lack of oxygen in the body tissues thus we yawn to get more oxygen from the environment.

i think a lot of it is boredom i know when i'm not bored i very rarely yawn but when i am bored io start to yawn more

2 reasons - physically - we need more oxygen. Psychologically -it is a signal to others around us that it is time to slow down and chillout -that's why yawning is 'infectious!'
