Can you record off an NTL box with a freeview recorder?

We have a freeview recorder with a hard drive. We have brought a Gold scart lead thinking that would work but hasnt. Does anyone know if its possible?

I'm thinking no seeing its a freeview recorder ,i tape programs using DVD recorder everything will record except on demand films but i can get films off the movie channels maybe try finding cheapest one of them.
the gold scart lead will only improve picture quality not help record.
