It was a star vastly than our own sun. For hundreds of years this giant star burned brightly in its corner of the universe. Then, at the end of its lifespan , a bizzare thing happened. The dying star began to collapse on itself. while the star was was in its death throes, all the matter that made up the star measured no more than a mile across. Its matter was so tightly packed that a chunk of it the size of a small marble weighed as much as a mountain.

When a star burns, it began to collapse on itself , and all the matter of it is squeezed into a smaller area but still it weights too much.

<>When you summarize, you must find the most important facts of a paragragh, and compact them by re-wording. Looking at your paragraph we have the following important facts:
an ancient star
dying
collapsing on itself
matter condensed into a mass only 1 mile across
matter so dense a piece the size of a marble weighs as much as a mountain.
So, in 25 words:
An ancient star, while dying, collapsed upon itself; condensing it's mass to only a mile across and so dense a marble weighed like a mountain.
And, in 15 words:
Dying stars collapse into tiny, intensely dense masses, weighing thousands of tons per square inch.

How about:

Stars burn, the matter squeezes forming a marble that weighs as much as a mountain.

Good Luck!

The most important thing to remember when summarizing stuff is to use the keywords. I don't see anything wrong with your 25 words. druid's answer is excellent.
