That eventuality will be (most likely) in several billion years. If humans can overcome our weaknesses as a race, we will have colonized other worlds and spread out to other parts of the solar system/galaxy. Its a definite possibility, unless your religious. Then you answer has already been provided

Assuming that humans will correct their 'Earth destroying' ways - such as global warming, burning fossil fuels etc, and no other natural phenomenon (asteroid strikes, ice ages etc) kills us off early, then the Earth and human race will live for about another 4 billion years. After that, the Sun will swell to a red giant and engulf the orbits of Mercury, Venus and possibly Earth. If it doesn't reach Earth, then the heat from the close proximty of the Sun will kill everything anyway. After that, the Sun will shrink to a white dwarf with a diminished gravity. Then what....? It's likely the Earth, minus all things living, will wander off into inter galactic space....
Maybe before that all happens, we would have found a way to inhabit other planets. Just a shame that all of us alive today will never know!

,, I gave this answer elsewhere ,, treats to Humanity
The Yellowstone super volcano ,, the oceanic methane hydrate (equivalent to 6(SIX) times Earth's breathable oxygen) , Amazonian peat (equivalent to 2(TWO) times Earth's breathable oxygen ) , the magnetic polar flip and the cooling of the core (loosing the planet's magnetic shield also means loosing the oceans to space,, aka the Mars effect ,, the planet turns to piece of rock ) , losing the Moon (Agriculture freezes over.) , Earth crossing meteorites (which is among the size of the KT event that took the dinosaurs ) , the eventual expansion of the Sun (the Sun becoming a red giant is a fact ) , we will eventually loose the Poincare's stable orbit (resonant in feed-back is not stable) , has been quoted on TV by National Geographic ,, except the Poincare's.
Viruses won't take the whole population ,, and artificail intelligence has no solution to (Prigogine-Hawking's) machanical entropy.
Melting of the polar caps are measured in mere metres rise of the sea level and destroys mostly property.
An all out nuclear war only brings a Kevin Costner's nuclear winter. A species bottleneck. Something which may be desirable. (Since the last one was.)
,, still ,, My favourite is the obcession of Europe and US government with exo-biology ,, like they know that population segregation will cline the species ,, progressively to our deadliest nemesis ever , from our very own seed. (Galapogo's finches ?)
The species will cline , regardless. But , on Earth the cline shall be by the evolutionary clock (in thousands of years)(Our ancestors extincted at least two human-like homonids , Australopethecus in Africa itself and the Neanderthal in Europe.) And , for this we would have time to react. Unless supposedly we loose a space colony through technical error ,, the human genome , breeding on an alien planet does a mojor re-shuffle.
This major reshuffling can also be observed in laboratory GM entities ,, understood to be the genome's housekeeping and reconcilation ,, or similar to a drastic genetic Shift of Dominance (evolutionary genetics). (The inert and background genes which "interprets" the exons , move , instead of the usual alleletrophies.) The product is unpredictable ,, and by statistics ,, favours bad news (for our species).
Another way to force this major reshuffle is to upset the genome by GM (genetic modification) , thereby giving an genetically unstable entity. Which is why , most of the actual GM crops carry the "inclusion" as a plasmid , outside of the nucleus , and not spliced into the genome. To a void this genetic Shift.
,,
Also , not everyone can leave Earth , on account of the "boost" plant life gets in space. Which means a good portion of the population is looking to be killed by the tubercolosis the individual carries on his spine ,, without making him sick so far.
,, my theory is that , the Shift of Dominance will turn against us anywhere out of Earth.
,, simply , the genome will find an answer for "that place" , and since it is a progression from our own seed , this H. sapien +1(plus one) is usually the base species' nemesis.

If your speaking of all life on earth, that's probably been tried before in the early days and it just came back. So long as we have liquid water, life will be tenacious.
On the other hand, some believe our core may be getting ready to freeze up. If that happens, no more magnetic field to protect the atmosphere (and water) from the solar wind. Adios amigos.
Trying to be an optimist, I prefer to think humanity has a chance to evolve into something bigger and better. If so, maybe they'll develop time travel, then out of gratitude come back to fetch all us primitives at the moment of our deaths and make us into beloved pets.
Hey, I could start a new religion..

The earth's demise will most likely be caused by the sun's demise which will result in a new beginning.

The sun will suck us in with its gravity when it changes star stages and becomes a red giant.
