This is what I try to do when i want o remember something I relate that particular thing with some stuff I use more often for eg. If u have to memorise Actors name then try to associate him this way if u want to remember Matt Dillon try to think of him with one product say he looks like a cigarette which is of a bad quality or say some stuff u really hate so associate watever u hate with that actor in this way u will remember both of them together as the brand name and also the actors name...
If u like for eg. Gisele Bündchen associate her with any brand of Cond0m and it's gonna b so easy lolz since ur a guy had to tell u this ;-)
Just relate one thing to the other and it'll b easy for u to remember things and names in no time just try this game and u sure will have fun too and it'll b great way to activate ur memory cells which are somewhere taking a lazy nap :D

If you can remember some things and not others there may either be a block of some kind, or no interest at all, or no respect to the other person for the purpose of remembering their name, or something happened in your life that caused you to later forget some things.
For remembering names and small items you can take a special memory course and remember up to 100 things or more at a time by association.
If you've had a block for some reason, maybe you'd want to get with a psychologist (not doctor) and work thru the reason why this has been caused.

there are different ways, one is to repeat, another is break the information down into short phrases or not more that 7 digits, but the most effective way that research comes up with is trying to find an association with something else that has meaning for you and if you can form an image in your mind of the words, phrase etc. with the picture, even better, it's referred to as a 'meaning-making' process. I hope this helps. Tata.

I will second the mindmapping answer.
MindMapping is really based on using all senses to learn better and that can include feeling or melodies or pictures or ... - i.e. you can use your strengths to overcome your weaknesses :)
I found an exercise from Tony Buzan (inventor of mindmapping) for word memorization on this blog "http://www.mind-pad.com/blog/cat/mappingtech/2/Mapping-Techniques" - Feb 1 entry. Give it a go. See if it works. Best of luck

I tried Mega Memory. I was skeptic at first but it does work. My memory is so much better now. It improved by at least 1000%. Try it. Take some memory course. It might work for you.

some sort of visual association.. for ex: your username is JohnRobinm.. I would think of a little robin bird jumping up and down on your head.. chirping "john, john, john".. and that would stand out in my mind forever.. haha!.. try it with someone. think of something that sounds like their name.. Also with facts.. I try to make a song out of it.. I dont know how many times in history class, I sang out years, generals, wars, dates, to the ABC song.. (twinkle, twinkle little star song) but it worked

Word association has helped me. Repetition is good too, but I find that if you associate what you're trying to memorize with something you're interested in you will remember it.
