Do you like to read at all, or would you rather see a video, movie or be on the internet. Have times began to change and people are not reading as much as they used to? How many like murder mysteries, killers, versus inspirational books for escape and relaxation. My sister is a writer and says the book selling business has slacked off, but maybe it is a certain kind of book. What input can you give?? What do you think ? Thanks - yes, I have my own idea, but cant' say. . yet! You first. . .

My sister has written many best sellers. I can't tell you who she is, but one was made into a movie. They gave her $250,000 for the option to do the movie, but another studio many years later did it as a movie and did not pay her because they changed it, but not much.

I like movies better than reading as an art because I like the visual part and the emotion. I don't feel emotion for characters in books. I also like to see the skill of the the actors and the directors and whatever. Also anything that is present in a book is present in a film. There is dialogue, a story etc etc. Only more.
I don't like reading non fiction. Most of it sucks. I don't care for fantasy. I get fantasy on tv or in dreams or just my imagination. I don't need somebody to help me make pictures in my head or give characters names like Vlarhkrohnpk which just distract me while I figure out how i'm supposed to pronounce it (in my head, but still, it slows my reading down) I just find it silly. Don't care for mysteries on tv so I certainly don't read those kind of books.
I like biographies and especially books about killers and things focussing on human psychology etc. Or history, and tales of adventure sometimes (treking, travelling, life story etc)
I don't find reading books relaxing. (?) It actually bothers me a lot because the pages keep closing or the lighting isn't right or I get a sore neck.. lol.
I prefer to come online and just get the bare facts for inspiration. I don't need it sugar coated and stretched out like what you get in books, also you have to pay for it haha. If you are reading something online and don't like it you simply close the page. No risk there.
As far as book selling.. I think it's just that there's so much competition these days and no ideas are original anymore. If someone wants to write a book, chances are it's already been done, at least 10 times before, and probably 10 times better.
That will be why people don't buy new books, they'll go to the library and get the classics or whatever.
Also the internet is probably a big part of it. Like illegal music downloading. Why bother paying for it and risking that you don't like it when you can get it quicker online for free?

I like to watch TV/surf the internet and read books. I tend to do these at different times of day so I read late at night (before bed) or on the train/bus to work. I watch TV in the evening, or tape it to watch later on in the week. Surf internet daily, three times a day (morning, noon and night).
I read a variety of books although I stick to Romance or Science Fiction/Urban Horror.
I think that people's attention spans are shrinking, and there is a lot more choice of what to do with your time these days but there are a lot more people out there reading "best sellers" so maybe this is the market she should aim for, of course there are similar large audiences for romance and according to one author there are no more loyal readers than those that like vampires so I guess it is all a matter of taste!

I love to read, but I agree with the fact that people prefer films over a book. I like to read autobiographies and biographies. I also enjoy any book with an exciting plot, not really mysteries, more like dramas.
