i have replaced thermocouple severl times but stll does not fix it seems to have two thermocouples one at the pilot and one on back off heater not sure what one on the rear does

there is also usually a heat sensor. If it doesn't sense the burner coming on it shuts off the gas to both. It looks like a 2inch metal rod with a wire attached. Just take it out and sand it a little bit to get the carbon off and it should work fine. THe one on back is the sensor

get a new water heater..

probably has leak in the bottom of tank

recommended time for water heater is about 5 - 7 years
