A really good question Yes we should stop allowing public servants to drink ( and to use street drugs) on the job!! Especially those who make 'big decisions about 'big' issues. If Bob in the mail room has a beer at noon it does little harm however do you want the guys down at the fire station to sit and drink until there next alarm? Of co use not--so there should be legislation-federal, state, county etc to prohibit alcohol on the job and before coming to work, be it in Congress or in the county garage.
And those big guys with the guns and badges shouldn't be able to drink all week. In fact they , the police are more dangerous sober then Senators drinking in their offices.
If I were found to be drinking at my work--I would be fired ! My job is not important to many. So go figure

Good luck trying to get that passed or even enforcing it. They wake up, break the law, blame somebody else, write a new law, get it passed, and then pardon themselves.

I don't think it's proper to drink while you're on the job, no matter what job it is.
