Please state the name of the compilation. A track/ artiste listing would be helpful too - if space allows it.

Note: I'm not talking of your own homemade mix tapes. I'm talking about compilations you can buy at actual (not virtual) record stores.

My favourite retro CD compilation is:

Devolution - Alternative Rock Classics - 1975 - 1985.

Featured songs from this 12-song, remastered CD include 12" mixes of A Forest, by the Cure; Homosapien, by Pete Shelley; Dancing With Myself, by Generation X; Planet Claire, by the B-52's; Once In A Lifetime, by Talking Heads.

Go ahead, put the needle on it...

The best compilation I ever had was caled "Minatures" by various artists. It had 50 tracks on it, all of a minute or less in duration, many written especially for the project. It was compiled by Morgan Fisher,ex-Mott the Hoople. Artist featured on it were The Residents, Andy Partridge, Thunderclap Newman, Neil Innes, Roger McGough, Robert Wyatt and many others(obviously!) that I forget. I don't know whether it is still available but I do know that it was a crazy idea that worked.

Update, I've just looked up Morgan Fisher on Yahoo! and he has just released Minatures2. I know what I'm getting for Christmas!
