It helps you regulate your breathing so it automatically helps to reduce symptoms of stress.
The only thing I cannot help to notice though, is that all the experts in yoga, the ones who practice it for years, have rather skinny bodies and pale faces. The look stressed, although they are not. It can be my imagination, probably is, but I notice it every time. It is like they cross their own borders and land in a world of their own.
Anyway, after this stupid reminisce, I can say that practicing yoga is very stimulating and it helps you get to know your body well.

I don't agree with some of the previous answer. I've practiced Yoga off and on for more than 25 years and even taught it once some time ago. If you do it with a combined meditation, you will find over time, that it is a very transformative experience. The transformation happens very gradually and so you dont notice it. It opens you up to things you will never know without it. Your whole being changes..all for the better. Very calming, very soothing, releasing what yogis feel is mental illness but passes for normal behavior currently. It is profound and gentle at the same time...the only way you notice this change is by noting how you were when you started and then months or years later notice the difference. Absolutely amazing!
