I am asking this question, inspired by hollywood movie "The Core".

the earths magnetic core is made of molten iron, the spinning of this is what creates the earth's magnetic field.

If the molten core stopped spinning, the earth's magnetic field would be reversed and we would all fall into the sky, in a similar way to static electricity.

Let us all hope and pray that the scientific situation and actual events related in the true story 'the Core" never eventuates

Put simply, the core spins at a different rate that the rest of the earth, This creates the magnetic field that prevents the Solar winds from frying us and slowly "blowing" away the atmosphere.

Not only would a solid core mean no magnetic field and hence no protection from the solar wind, but it would also mean no more plate tectonics or volcanism. This would stop the carbon cycle, which is also vital to life on Earth (although I think the lack of a magnetic field would kill us first, but I'm not certain).

We are dealt our doom by various means my dear let alone the earth core stops moving. Man's increased occupation of land, the nature dwindling away of its natural resources, the hole in the ozone layer up above us, global warming, killing of innocent animals for fashion wear, fuming the atmosphere with more and more carbon, smoking tobacco, testing nuclear weapons, calling the obliteration of a nation off the map etc. have all but one thing in common. The earth does not have to stop moving by itself to spell our doom.

Yes, basically that is what will happen. It would affect the magnetic field around the Earth and let all kinds of nasty cosmic rays get through. It would also affect all the animals (like birds) that use the magnetic field to navigate.

I don't know about it affecting the atmosphere, but we definitely would get roasted by radiation, and quick.

the magnetic field will disappear which will then allow the suns radiation to kill us.
