My view on Yoga is very different than that of folks who believe in Yoga. I think it is a good fitness program that improves flexibility. If I were going to place priorities on flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, and strength, I would place flexibility first. Flexibility makes cardiovascular training and strength training easier and safer. You will develop a physical sense of well-being from a regular Yoga workout. Personally I don't go for all the spiritual and breathing hype of serious Yoga practitioners. I just like it because it makes me feel better and I don't put any effort into the spiritual or breathing aspects.
Try Iyengar Yoga or Hatha Yoga.

yoga is of many types. The one which is aimed at strengthening the body alone is known as Hatha Yoga, That which strengthens body, mind and soul is Raja yoga, That which is gives mental concentration in meditation is dhyana yoga etc
India's sacred scripture Gita is full of discussion on the effects of various yogas.
Raj yoga is the best of the lot as it aims at all round improvement of body , mind and soul. It has to be learnt systematically from a Guru or teacher.

Yoga is mainly for the mind. It does have muscle and fitness benefits but they are generally small. It is very relaxing, but some positions can be very challenging and difficult. If your looking to tone up or lose weight Pilate's or yoga that incorporates Pilate's is better. Also for weight loss and toning up be sure to do some cardio.

Yoga is a technology of Breath. You can be trained it from any individual who is aware of it with perfection. If you might touch "sanskar" and "astha" channels on dish/cable television you may also uncover a few yogy doing and instructing yoga early within the morning at five AM Indian Std Time.
