2. via friendster & myspace & blogs & email with a map and a killer e-flyer
3. text message people to spread your party message to five other people
4. incentivize...e.g. say that the first 100 people who arrive get a free kiss from the hostess or a free CD from the band/DJ
5. celebrity

Really creative invitations, or perhaps flyers if you are still in school. If you are "popular," having a big crowd show up shouldn't be a problem. From experience, the honest best way of promoting a party is by word-of-mouth.

If you want as many people to show up as possible - do it all. Invites, Flyers, Word of Mouth - AND you could use e-vite. And on all of them note that people should bring along whomever they'd like to bring with them.
Also - when getting the word out - make sure to note WHAT the party is for (if anything) and WHAT will be happening there. If there will be prizes, games, drinking, music, a live band - whatever - communicate it! Also - let them know what they need to bring with them - if anything. And - if necessary - provide a MAP!
If you are a teen and this is a party at your house that your parents don't know about - please don't do it! Otherwise - I hope your party is the best!!

Sending out invitations. Other than that...word of mouth and perhaps some creatively made flyers.
