They have as much ability to last as any other type of relationship. Remember, the internet is simply a venue, just like a grocery store, a bar, a club, or a coffee shop. What you want to look at is the person you meet at that venue, not the venue itself.
If anything, the internet may have advantages, because it gives you the opportunity to pick and choose at your leisure.

I think it,s always going to carry an element of risk but providing you spend enough time making sure you really know somebody well then why not. I met my current partner online two and a half years ago and it proved to be life changing. We have a house and a baby due next week and he is fantastic to my other daughter. BUT i,m well aware that i am very lucky. Truth is i think each individual situation can only be based on it,s own merit and the maturity of the people involved.

The Internet is just a introduction tool.
It helps you to meet people. When you have met someone through the Internet it is completely down the two individuals to what happens in their rel.
You could ask the same question when you have met someone in a club or a bar or a supermarket

I would say that they have MORE chance of lasting. When you meet someone in a bar or club you tend to be drawn by the persons looks alone and disregard those less appealing. Whereas you can get to know people for who they are and what there about and it makes looks secondary... having said that it makes it sound that only ugly people are searching for partners on the net...that is not what I mean and I apologise to all concerned if my answer is coming across like that.

Relationships are relationships wherever they are forged.
They can last or not....like any other.
My reservation would be that the secret world of cyber can be addictive and that when a rocky patch it would be easy to retreat back to that as a comfort zone instead of communicate.
But obviously it is all about individuals the same as any other relationship just built from a different foundation.

Not all of them but some definitely can. My friend met a guy on one of the chatrooms, they spoke for about 6 months, texting and phoning as well. When they met up they fell for each other big time. They've since gotten married and have a kid on the way. Everyone comments about how in love they are. Its lovely so go for it, just be careful cos even though she was lucky, there are a lot of nutters out there x x x

Yes they can.. I have a friend who met her husband of 12 years off the net.. and I met my soon to be husband off the net! Why would a guy you met off the internet be any different then a guy you met and started dating at a club, bar or wherever.. In my opinoin if you met him off the net then there had to be some talking going on so you know him! Last time I went to bars and stuff wasn't much talking going on.... So My answer is yes... Very much so!

I would have to say yes, my lovely Husband is lay sleeping next to me and we met on the net, I think the key is to be very honest from the start. Also dont leave it too long before you meet in person because if you get all attached and then the chemistry isnt there its a bigger fall if you have been talking for ages. But why not, we all have to meet somewhere.
Good luck.

Yes - my brother met his fiance over the internet in one of those special interest chatrooms. She's American and came to university in England partly so they could be together and they have been together for three years and getting married at Christmas.

There is no definate answer I have heard of tons of stories where they have worked out but have also heard of those that haven't. Think it's just the same as any other relationship really there is always the chance of failure...but it shouldn't stop you from trying. All the best x
