okay, i'm not asking this to offend anyone, so please don't respond with anrgy comments accusing me of being a racist. i'm not. and.. i'm not saying ALL african americans- so please don't tell me that i'm generalizing.

I know that white, latino and asian people are mean to thier kids too- but i've noticed recently almost every black mother i've come across is yelling or slapping thier child.

MOjority of the mothers you see are probably young and don't know the proper way to raise a child. Blacks in general were brought up being whopped and on a tight belt. But what people fail to realize is that times are changing and there are other alternatives to disciplining a child.

I used to be the same way, and yes children do get on your nerves, and yes alot of single black mothers have it extremely hard, no education, no good climate, and want to raise their child right. Now i'm not speaking for all african american women but im from Chicago and that's all i've seen.

I believe that once a kid gets around a good climate and theirselves and their parents can live comfortably the stress level will go down tremendously.

I hope I've answered your question, and i'm sorry for all the criticism you're going to get for this question

There is a correlation but no causation, i.e. poorer families are less likely to "give the extra push" and their children are more likely to remain in the lower classes of society but that isn't simply because they are poor. 1. Most of us will remain in the socio-economic class to which we were born neither rising above nor sinking below; 2. Poorer families aren't less involved in their childrens' education because they're bad or neglegent parents, necessarily. Many are simply working and trying to keep food in the house and a house to begin with and aren't home to give the push; 3. Many don't know how to help their children. Last summer they released a statistic on literacy in Washington, DC and, apprently, 1 in 3 people living in the city limits is functionally illiterate. Now, those people surely want their children to be better educated than they but how can a person who can't read help their child with their homework? How can they read the notes being sent home from the teachers and administrators, etc.? How are they supposed to know about FAFSA's, SAT's, ACT's, etc. when it comes time for their children to go to college? It's not as cut and dry as some would like to make it out to be.

What a racist remark! Do you forget Susan Smith (white), or the one that drowned her 4 children(white), or the man that killed his wife and kids (white), or the young man that killed his mom, dad, sister and cousin (white).

What is any meaner than these people. Especially Susan Smith!!

By the way, I am white!
