I was sleeping and felt a presence by my bed. A tall figure was staring at me. (It was a new place I am temporarily staying in while I study abroad.) This person had a strong sense of familiarity about him/her. I felt it was someone I have recent met here, kind of a prissy young man. I tried to look at his face but couldn't see it distinctly enough to recognize it. I sensed some kind of smile or laugh from him, not a pleasant one. As I was looking at him, and I was frightened as I had to force myself to look into his face, he put his hands together with mine, his fingers intwining mine and moved our arms around in a childish, silly manner. I suddenly became terrified thinking this was really happening and not a dream and began to scream. (I knew or thought I was dreamng at the time and screamed to wake myself up) When I woke up, I was relieved to hear the quiet around me and reassured myself it was all a dream. Or was it?

Dennis...I can't image my subconscious would like this guy...I get a big ick feeling about him. He is like a big sissy and nauseates me...since you had zero documentation, didn't discuss where your answer comes from, and listed no credentials in this area, I also give a big 0 to your interpretation. Try again!

Dreams are just extentions of our awake conscience mind, we have a sleep cycle, and when we reach "rem" sleep, this is when we are in the deepest sleep, and our subconscienc mind takes over,we take our conscience mind into our sleep, this is useful so that we can continue to be alert even in our subconscience state.
This is why a person will wake up if somone is watching them, how soldiers stay alert on the battle fields, how new moms can hear thier infant cry, when normally they are "heavy sleepers".
So usally our dreams are about things that are going on in our in our everyday life.
It was a dream. Your in a new place, unfamilar, maybe not feeling comfortable enough around others to left your guard down, or feel your just there to study and not play? The reference to this person has to do with your feelings towards him, he makes you uncomfortable because he acts prissy or childish, you would like to be a little silly to, but fear this may cause you to appear immature in surroundings where you feel you must conduct yourself in a very mature mannor.
We do tend to feel a bit frightened in a new place, and not safe and secure to conduct ourselves as when we are home and around parents or loved ones. In your conscience state you may resent that he can act prissy and you feel you can't, < this being the reason you are frightened to look and/or interact with him. I would say that its mostly anxiety of a new place....fear of conducting yourself has a child or do silly things.
Relax isin't one of the ideas of studing abroad to meet new people, see new places and experience new adventures.
But one thing if intuition tells you to keep your distance from a person listen to it........but in a conscience state, because our subconscience mind tends to over dramatise our anxieties which can lead to nightmares. Which are anxieties relived in "REM" sleep.
It seems that you have certain amount of control in your dreams, so if you ever have a simular dream try not to be so afraid and face some of your anxieties in your dreams which will help you to feel more comfortable both while asleep and while awake.
I like to fly in my dreams.........somthing we are unable to do while awake and its perfectly safe!

It's only a dream, of course.
I wouldn't worry too much about the idea this person may have evil intentions. Clearly, you dislike him and this appears in your dream as he makes you uncomfortable there. If you are dreaming about him at all, though, it means your relationship with him is not as clearly defined as it could be. Maybe you're not entirelly honest about your feelings and it's creating tension?
Also, the dream enters the category of nightmares. These are usually general anxiety dreams. Your fear may have nothing to do with this peron as such. You may feel anxious about finances, schools, family, etc... and it takes this form in the dream.
These are just guidelines. I would advise anyone against giving too strict an interpretation to a dream. The unconscious is larger than the conscious mind. You can only grasp what you are ready to grasp.
Hope this helps.

It sounds like you had an experience of something known as 'sleep paralysis'. These dreamlike states are not uncommon and share similar features across cultures including a strong sense that there is someone malevolent in the room. Check out the article at the link (if it doesn't work, google the title "night of the crusher" to find it directly). The second web site has more info and allows you to post a description of your experience.

Personally, I don't accord any deep meaning to dreams like this ... it is just your sleeping brain acting unwound. In the article they write:
"Despite their fantastic claims, these people are mentally healthy, says McNally. "Sleep paralysis is an entirely natural phenomenon," he remarks. "In isolated cases, it's no more pathological than a case of the hiccups.""

Your dream most likely had nothing to do with that guy, it could have been a father figure in your life. Possibly someone you miss. A memory from your past, something you may have forgotten long ago.
Because your in a new place, you subconsciously could have been thinking about who ever it is you miss.
Hope this helps.

Of course a Dream is just a dream, however I believe that it does raise the sub conscience of real thought. Could it be as simple as your acceptance within a new surrounding and the anxieties that come with.

Tall figure = insecure conscience, high authority

This figure you projected probably is an insecure conscience of yours. It also involves someone who has high authority of certain things. In other words, you respect this individual and caused you dream of him as tall figure. That also involves your guilt conscience. You have fear about this person. Whether or not this person is real. In reality, he gave your the impression that you feel insecure, fear in someway and you may have conflict feeling about him. In other words, you want to see him, and yet you have fear about him. This person may also just a symbol about you feeling towards this kind of person.

Sounds like a visit from the dark side of the spiritual realm. Not all that is spiritual is good or godly. Not blaming you, just recognizing this from a similar experience that I will never forget.
