Is Little Mermaid 3 really a prequel of the series???

I saw the trailer of The Little Mermaid 3, but it seems that all the scenes were taken from the 1st Little Mermaid movie. Some guess that it'll be a prequel... Does anyone have any idea on this issue? I'll be quite excited about it if Melody won't be in the movie! hahaha!!! ^_^

The Little Mermaid 3 is going to be about Ariel telling Melody about her past life before the first movie. So it's kinda a prequel I guess
