Johor Bahru is the best place. I means any money changer along the street will give you similar rates, so no need to go to any particular store. They will put a big sign of rates on the glass counter and normally will add another 0.005 on top of it.

However, it really doesn't worth the effort if you purposesly make a trip to JB to get the money change, say RM1 more for every SGD100 u exchange. Think about the immigration office that you need to pass thru....

Whereas, there is a money changer inside Bugis Junction, near TOPShop Seiyu that give a quite competitive rate as well.

1. There are lots of money changers in the shopping complexes. If you're staying in Shangrila, you can go to the Bukit Bintang area easily. 2. Yes. Most roads in the KL area already have wide, paved roads, so it is safer for you (and the camera) to take pictures in the zone. 3. Yes n No. Ever heard of a travel pouch or waist pouch? In case of the bag snatching thingy... why carry around a backpack? Just pack light, all you need to have is a daysack - the smaller you can manage, the better. Edit: Closest Maybank to you is located in Menara Hapseng in Jln P Ramlee. Its about 200m from whre u're staying. CIMB is also in the same building.

The best place to exchange Singapore Dollar is actually in JB (Johor Bahru Malaysia). The town is accessible via Bus from Singapore, and it is the bordering town to Singapore. The rate given by the money changers there are very competitive. You could get the best rate in town. If you are thinking of exchanging a few thousands of dollars, you could do it there. But, be wary of snatch thieves! The money changers are situated very close to the immigration centre.

Change Alley in Raffles Place but you need to time it well. I am not sure when as my wife do this. I do know that they have an interesy in getting RM$.

The other place is in Johor Bahru after the Causeway. After the Malaysia custom, cross to the Shell station and the shops are behind it. Also depends on how much you want to change. If you want to change large amount of money, you will need to negotiate with the money changers.
